Understanding the Collision Repair Process
Our collision repair process is straightforward, transparent, and built around industry-approved standards.
1. Vehicle Disassembly
When your vehicle arrives, we begin by disassembling the damaged area. During this stage, we compare the condition of the vehicle to the estimate being used—whether it was written by West Michigan Auto Body or by your insurance company.
2. Supplemental Damage Review
As parts are removed, we carefully inspect for any additional damage that was not visible during the initial estimate.
If new damage is found, we create a supplemental estimate and send it to the responsible party—typically the insurance company—for approval.
Approval may occur by email, phone, or an in-person reinspection by an adjuster.
3. Parts Ordering
Once the supplement is approved, we follow insurance protocols and order the additional parts.
This may extend the repair timeline, but we do everything possible to keep your repair moving efficiently once parts arrive.
4. Repair & Refinish Preparation
All repaired and replaced parts are completed and prepared for refinishing in our heated downdraft spray booth. This controlled environment allows the paint to cure properly so repairs can continue the following day. (See Paint System)
5. Denib & Polish
After painting, small imperfections are removed through denibbing and polishing to achieve a finish as close to pre-accident condition as possible.
6. Reassembly, Cleaning & Delivery
Your vehicle is then reassembled, cleaned, washed, and prepared for delivery.
